Accessibility tools on ISSUP Academy: an overview

ISSUP Academy uses accessWidget by accessiBe to help you adjust how the site looks and behaves to suit your needs. You will see a small accessibility icon in the corner of every page. Select it to open the accessibility panel.

From the panel you can:

  • Choose a ready-made accessibility profile that applies a set of adjustments in one click (for example, Vision Impaired or ADHD Friendly).
  • Fine-tune individual settings such as text size, contrast, spacing, cursor size and animation.

With a mouse or touch
Select the accessibility icon in the corner of the page. The panel opens on the side of the screen. To close it, select the X at the top of the panel or press Escape.

With the keyboard
Press Alt + 9 on Windows or Option + 9 on Mac to open the panel directly. Press Alt + 1 (Option + 1) to enable the widget's screen reader mode, and Alt + 0 (Option + 0) to remove the widget for the rest of your session. These shortcuts do not work while your cursor is inside a text box, so ...

Profiles are the quickest way to adapt ISSUP Academy to your needs. Each profile applies a group of adjustments at once. You can switch profiles at any time, and you can add individual adjustments on top of a profile.

Open the accessibility panel and choose one of the following:

Seizure Safe
Removes flashing and blinking content and reduces risky colour combinations. Useful if you have photosensitive epilepsy or are sensitive to flashing.

If a profile does not quite fit, or you only need one or two changes, you can adjust settings individually. Open the accessibility panel and scroll to the section you need. Settings can be combined freely.

Content adjustments (how text and page elements are displayed)

  • Content scaling: make everything on the page larger or smaller.
  • Readable font: switch to a font designed for legibility.
  • Highlight titles: draw a box around headings so they are easy to spot.

The accessibility panel is available in 33 languages, independent of the language you have chosen for ISSUP Academy itself. Open the panel and use the language selector at the top to change it.

The panel also includes a dictionary and an AI-powered text simplifier. Select a word or phrase on the page to look up its meaning, or use the text simplifier to get a plain-language version of complex passages. accessWidget improves how ISSUP Academy pages look and behave in your browser, and it helps assistive technology such as screen readers interpret the site. It works fully on all standard Moodle pages, including course pages, lessons, books, quizzes, forums and assignments.
